Why Child Protection Can’t Wait: Firm Health Care Foundation’s Call to Action for 2026

Firm Health Care Foundation continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to child protection, maternal health, and family wellbeing through strategic capacity-building initiatives across Nigeria. Recently, the Foundation participated in a Child Protection and Foster Care Training organized by SOS Children’s Villages, in collaboration with the Child Protection Network (CPN) Nigeria, for community stakeholders in Imo State.

This high-impact training provided an in-depth and practical understanding of Nigeria’s child protection framework, equipping community members with the knowledge and tools required to safeguard vulnerable children and strengthen alternative care systems.

Key Focus Areas of the Training

The session was an intensive, participatory, and eye-opening engagement that covered critical areas, including:

  • National Guidelines for Alternative Care of Children in Nigeria
  • Children’s rights and child welfare laws
  • Best practices in child protection and safeguarding
  • Roles and responsibilities of foster care parents
  • Ensuring the rights, safety, and wellbeing of foster children

Participants gained valuable insights into how informed communities can prevent abuse, neglect, exploitation, and harmful family separation—reinforcing the reality that child protection is a shared societal responsibility.

Aligning Child Protection with Maternal and Child Health

At Firm Health Care Foundation, child protection is inseparable from maternal and child health outcomes. Safe homes, informed caregivers, and strong alternative care systems are essential for children to thrive physically, emotionally, and socially.

This intervention directly aligns with the Foundation’s mission to:

  • Advance child and maternal health
  • Promote safe, nurturing family structures
  • Advocate for children’s rights and wellbeing
  • Support community-driven child protection systems
