In a state where 19% of girls aged 15–19 have begun childbearing (NDHS 2023) and adolescents account for over 30% of new HIV infections in Nigeria (NACA), there is no denying the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) crisis among teenagers in Imo State.
To tackle the above issue, Firm Health Care Foundation is stepping up with bold, high-impact interventions and our latest outreach made waves.
As part of our mission to promote youth health, dignity, and informed decision-making, we organized a dynamic SRH sensitization outreach at Comprehensive Secondary School, Amakaohia, with the theme:
Why This Matters
“My Body, My Health, My Responsibility”
More than 1,000 senior secondary students were reached in just one day — and the transformation in awareness, confidence, and curiosity was immediate and inspiring.
What We Did:
SRH Myths Busted
An interactive icebreaker game sparked curiosity and debunked common misconceptions around sex, menstruation, and STIs.
Health Talk
A gender-inclusive session covered puberty, hygiene, menstruation, consent, STIs, and bodily autonomy, tailored for adolescent understanding.
Quiz Time
To reinforce learning, students participated in a fun, knowledge-based quiz, with the top 5 winners receiving prizes.
Q&A Segment
Students anonymously submitted pressing questions, which were addressed openly, respectfully, and factually by our trained facilitators.
What They Said
“I’ve never heard some of these things before — now I know how to protect myself and help my younger sister too.” – Senior Secondary Student
“This was an eye-opener. We need this kind of education in every school.” – Vice Principal, CSS Amakaohia
The Impact
- 1,000+ students educated in just one session
- Accurate, rights-based SRH education delivered
- Barriers of stigma and silence broken
- Over 100 questions submitted by curious students
- 📢Heightened demand for SRH clubs within the school
In underserved communities, adolescents are often left to navigate puberty, sex, and relationships without accurate information or support systems. This leads to:
- Unintended pregnancies
- Early school dropouts
- Gender-based violence
- Increased risk of HIV and STIs
Our intervention is designed to bridge this deadly information gap — one school at a time.
We are deeply grateful to global champions of youth SRHR like @UNFPA @AmplifyChange @FordFoundation @USAID @GlobalFund @SheDecidesGlobal @UNICEF @WHO @GatesFoundation @PlanInternational, whose ongoing support makes youth-focused interventions like this possible.
But we can’t stop here.
Thousands of teens across Nigeria remain unreached, uninformed, and unprotected.
We’re calling on:
- Donors to fund and scale these outreaches
- Development partners & CSOs to collaborate
- Government agencies to integrate SRH into school curricula
Partner With Us. Save a Generation.
Let’s create a Nigeria where no teen suffers due to ignorance, silence, or stigma. Your support can help us:
- Train more facilitators
- Develop age-appropriate SRH materials
- Expand into more rural and underserved schools
- Provide sanitary products and health kits to students in need
