Transforming Lives by Defeating the Diseases of Poverty

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of debilitating, often overlooked infections that thrive in impoverished, underserved communities particularly in tropical and subtropical regions.

At Firm Health Care Foundation, we are committed to combating these preventable yet devastating diseases that continue to rob millions of their health, dignity, productivity, and futures.

These diseases may be “neglected” globally, but to us, they are a priority.

What Are NTDs?

NTDs include over 20 parasitic, bacterial, viral, and fungal infections such as:

Lymphatic filariasis (Elephantiasis)
Onchocerciasis (River Blindness)
Schistosomiasis
Soil-transmitted helminths (intestinal worms)
Trachoma (infectious cause of blindness)
Leprosy
Dengue, Chikungunya, Rabies, and others

They cause blindness, disfigurement, severe pain, cognitive impairment in children, and in many cases death. Children cannot go to school. Adults cannot work. Families sink deeper into poverty.

Our Work on NTDs

Firm Health Care Foundation takes a community-based, multi-sectoral approach to eliminate the burden of NTDs in rural and urban underserved communities in Nigeria and across Africa.

Our Core Activities Include

Health Education & Awareness

Grassroots campaigns to educate communities on NTD prevention, symptoms, and hygiene.

School-Based Deworming Programs

Delivering routine treatment to reduce worm burden and improve children's health and school performance

Screening & Early Detection

Mobilizing health workers for regular screening campaigns to detect NTDs early and refer for treatment.

Community Treatment Programs

Facilitating mass drug administration (MDA) in partnership with government and global health agencies.

WASH Interventions

Promoting clean water, improved sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure as a first line of defense against infection.

Advocacy & Policy Engagement

Engaging government, traditional rulers, and stakeholders to prioritize NTD funding and policy actions.

What We Aim to Achieve

Our long-term goal is to interrupt the cycle of poverty and disease by:

Eliminating at least 5 high-burden NTDs in our target regions by 2030.
Ensuring universal access to preventive treatment for vulnerable populations, especially children and women
Integrating NTD services into primary health care systems for sustainability.
Promoting inclusion and rehabilitation for those already affected.

Through our NTD interventions, we directly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
