Firm HealthCare Foundation

Maternal, Child, and
Mental Health

At Firm Health Care Foundation, we are committed to ensuring that every woman and child in Nigeria—regardless of socioeconomic status or location—has access to quality maternal, child, and mental health care. We believe that no mother should die giving life, no child should lose their chance at a healthy future, and no woman should suffer in silence due to the mental burden of motherhood.

Our work addresses the triple burden of poor maternal outcomes, preventable child deaths, and the often-overlooked mental health needs of women and caregivers—especially in underserved communities.

Why It Matters

  • Nigeria accounts for 12% of global maternal deaths. (WHO, 2023)
  • 1 in 8 Nigerian children dies before their 5th birthday. (UNICEF)
  • Postpartum depression affects 20–25% of Nigerian women, yet remains stigmatized and underdiagnosed.
  • Over 60% of Nigerian women give birth without skilled birth attendants.

These alarming statistics call for urgent action to build a healthier generation—starting with mothers, children, and their mental wellbeing.
