At Firm Health Care Foundation, our mission to contribute to an AIDS‑free generation continues to take bold, community‑driven action. Recently, our leadership team undertook a strategic advocacy and partnership visit to the Imo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ImoSACA) and NEPWHAN Imo State — an initiative aimed at strengthening stakeholder collaboration across the HIV/AIDS response continuum in the state.
Despite progress in global and national HIV responses, the epidemic remains a significant public health challenge in Nigeria — particularly in states like Imo. According to the most recent HIV spectrum estimates released by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Imo State alone accounts for approximately 67,944 people living with HIV (PLHIV), placing it among states with high HIV burdens nationwide. Across Nigeria, more than 2 million people are currently living with HIV, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced prevention, testing, treatment, and care interventions. (Daily Post)
During our engagement, key gaps were highlighted that continue to drive the epidemic in underserved communities:
- Low prevention coverage and awareness, especially among young people and women
- Limited access to HIV testing and early diagnosis
- Treatment adherence challenges and service delivery bottlenecks
- Persistent stigma and discrimination hindering care uptake
These systemic challenges demand targeted, sustained investment — especially at the community level where the epidemic’s impact is most profound.

Our discussions with ImoSACA and NEPWHAN centered on four core objectives:
- Scaling community‑based HIV prevention and awareness campaigns
- Strengthening linkage to care and treatment adherence support
- Reducing stigma and discrimination through inclusive community engagement
- Promoting data‑driven, people‑centered HIV responses that leave no one behind
This strategic alignment reaffirms Firm Health Care Foundation’s commitment to evidence‑based, partnership‑anchored action that complements state and national HIV goals.
Our strategy is clear: the impact is possible — but only with sustained funding and strategic partnerships. Without additional resources, communities in Imo State will continue to experience gaps in service delivery, prevention, and support — particularly for women, youth, and other vulnerable populations.
